Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker competitor in the world by many of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His papa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to learn anything he could about the game. He routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the negative comments from other people annihilate his goal of becoming one of the best poker competitors on the planet.
He started competing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and winning wasn’t a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he defeated a number of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to dedication and a continuing love for the game of poker. He says that he’s learning every single day and is quite humble about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making blunders in each game of poker and always aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a regular basis.
