Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker competitor in the world by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching the age of one. His papa taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to learn everything he possibly could about the game. He routinely would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the adverse feedback from other people kill his ambition of becoming one of the best poker competitors on the planet.
He began competing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning period and coming away with a win was not a regular outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed many of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an eternal passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every single day and is very humble about his achievements. He admits to making blunders every single game of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some big tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a regular basis.
