Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker player in the world by most of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandpa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to discover every little thing he possibly could about poker. He routinely would tell his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the negative feedback from others destroy his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker players on the planet.

Phil began competing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a teaching period and coming away with a win wasn’t a common outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an eternal love for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. Phil knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Even though Phil has won some big tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
