Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker competitor on the planet by most of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching turning 1. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to pickup anything he possibly could about poker. He routinely would tell his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He did not permit the negative feedback from others destroy his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.
He began playing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a learning period and winning wasn’t a regular thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed many of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an undying passion for poker. He states that he is learning every single day and is incredibly abashed about his achievements. Phil admits to making blunders in each game of poker and constantly strives to improve.
Although Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a regular basis.
