Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker competitor on the globe by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather introduced him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup everything he could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the detrimental feedback from others annihilate his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.
He began playing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a learning experience and winning wasn’t a common outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an undying passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s learning every day and is quite humble about his accomplishments. He knows he makes mistakes in each session of poker and always aspires to improve.
Although Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a normal basis.
