Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker player on the globe by quite a few of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to discover everything he could about poker. He routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the negative feedback from other people annihilate his dream of becoming one of the best poker competitors in the world.
Phil began playing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning period and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed a number of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an eternal passion for poker. Phil says that he is learning every single day and is very abashed about his achievements. He admits to making blunders every single session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a regular basis.
