Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker player on the planet by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the detrimental comments from other people destroy his ambition of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.

Phil began competing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and winning wasn’t a normal thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he defeated many of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. He states that he’s learning every single day and is quite humble about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making blunders every single game of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Even though Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a normal basis.
